- A big update on Rohit’s fitness
Former Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is playing as an impact player in IPL 2026. This has raised questions about his fitness. Rohit suffered a hamstring injury during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede. He missed a few matches after that, but since his comeback he has been playing as an impact player. His availability was questioned due to injury. Rohit has been selected for the ODI series against Afghanistan next month. However, he has to pass the fitness test. The board has made it clear that Rohit can participate in this series only if he is fully fit. But now, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene has given a major update on Rohit’s fitness.

Jayawardene’s statement on Rohit Sharma’s injury
Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene made an important statement. He said, ‘According to me and our medical team, Rohit is 100 percent fit. We were a bit cautious when he was playing his first match after a hamstring injury. Now he is being played as an ‘Impact Player’ only because of the team combination. Rohit is a team player and understands these things completely.’ From the coach’s statement, it is clear that Rohit is now fully prepared and there are no worries about his fitness.
However, before the ODI series, Rohit Sharma will have to pass BCCI’s fitness test. According to media reports, BCCI is worried about Rohit’s fitness. Rohit did not appear at BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE) for three weeks during the injury. This has raised concerns about whether his body will be able to withstand the stress of high-performance sports. Fielding is required in 50 overs in ODIs. Unlike IPL, ODI cricket does not have the option of giving chances to effective players. Therefore, the BCCI will have the final decision on Rohit’s fitness.
Rohit played only 8 matches in IPL 2026
Rohit Sharma has played only 8 matches in this IPL season due to injury. During this period, he scored 283 runs at a strike rate of 160.79, including two fifties. Also, the Mumbai Indians team is already out of the playoff race. The team has won only 4 matches in 13 matches. Hence, Rohit will be looking for a big knock in the last league match.
