FC Bayern Munich are reportedly exploring ways to reduce their annual expenses by €15 million, with speculation intensifying that a major player sale could be on the horizon.
Fresh reports suggest that defender Alphonso Davies could be the one to depart the Allianz Arena next season, as rumours of a potential split between the club and the Canadian international continue to gather pace.
As per *kicker*, Davies has emerged as “a potential candidate for sale.” His high salary and persistent injury problems have led the management at Säbener Straße to reassess his overall value to the team. The report further mentions that Bayern’s hierarchy is “considering the possibility” of parting ways with the 25-year-old, just a year and a half after he penned a contract extension.
However, such a move will not come easily. Following his extension in February, Davies remains tied to Bayern Munich under a long-term deal that runs until 2030. This means any potential transfer would require significant negotiations and a suitable offer from interested clubs.
Consistent media reports indicate that Davies earns close to €15 million per year, making him one of the club’s highest-paid players. Given his current fitness concerns and salary demands, Bayern officials admit that securing a buyer for the Canadian star could prove “extremely difficult, if not impossible.”
Adding to the uncertainty, Davies is currently anxious about his participation in the upcoming World Cup. After suffering a cruciate ligament tear in spring 2025, he has struggled to regain full fitness. Recurring muscle injuries have sidelined him for much of the season, and a fresh thigh issue will rule him out of Saturday’s DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart in Berlin. His availability for Canada’s home World Cup this summer remains uncertain and will depend on assessments by Bayern’s medical team.
His lack of consistent match practice has inevitably impacted his performances, though head coach Vincent Kompany still showed faith by starting him in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain a few weeks ago. Despite visible rustiness, Davies held his own against PSG’s Achraf Hakimi and Désiré Doué, although he conceded a contentious penalty following an accidental handball inside his area.
Since joining the Bavarian giants in January 2019, Davies has transformed from a promising left winger into one of the best left-backs in world football. During his tenure, he has collected seven Bundesliga titles along with a UEFA Champions League winners’ medal.
Alphonso Davies’ season statistics for Bayern Munich reflect both his early-season impact and later struggles due to injury, encapsulating a campaign of high expectations and frustrating setbacks.
