New Delhi: US President Donald Trump is once again in the news for his statements and social media posts. This time the matter is to Greenland, regarding which Trump shared such a picture that the debate intensified in political circles across the world. In the picture, Trump is seen looking towards Greenland from the sky and it was written along with it, “Hello, Greenland!” The special thing is that now Greenland is also being presented as an alternative for oil supply amid the Iran and Hormuz Strait crisis.
Donald Trump shared a unique picture of himself on social media on Friday. In the picture he was seen looking at Greenland from above. Along with the post he wrote a short message – “Hello, Greenland!” Many people considered Trump’s post as a joke, while political analysts say that it could also be an indication of America’s strategic thinking. In fact, Trump has expressed his interest in Greenland several times before.
American ambassador reached Greenland
Recently, US Special Envoy and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry visited Greenland. During this, he met the political leaders and business representatives there. Giving information on social media platform X, Landry said that during the talks, issues like security, economic development and US-Greenland cooperation in the Arctic region were discussed. He said that America wants to further strengthen its relations with Greenland in the coming months.
American opposition increasing in Greenland
Voices of protest have also increased in Greenland regarding America’s increasing activism. According to the New York Times report, hundreds of people demonstrated against the new US Consulate building in the capital Nuuk. The protesters held posters that read “We don’t want your money” and “The people of Greenland recognize the MAGA Trojan Horse.” Many people took to the streets chanting “Go Away!” Were also seen raising slogans. Local people allege that America is gradually trying to increase its influence in Greenland in the name of economic aid and security cooperation.
Trump has already talked about buying
Trump’s interest in Greenland is not new. Even during his first presidential term, he had expressed his desire to buy Greenland. At that time this statement had become a topic of discussion all over the world and many countries including Denmark had opposed it. However, Trump has been continuously saying that Greenland is a strategically important area for America.
Now, amid tensions in West Asia and the Strait of Hormuz crisis, Greenland is being presented as a new option for energy supply. US ambassador Jeff Landry claimed that Greenland has the capacity to produce about 2 million barrels of oil every day. He said that if this happens then the world’s dependence on the Strait of Hormuz can reduce significantly. According to Lendari, if work is done at a fast pace, oil production can be started there within the next 10 months.
Why is the importance of Greenland increasing?
The increasing strategic competition between Russia, China and America in the Arctic region has further increased the importance of Greenland. This area is considered very important for global powers due to natural resources, rare minerals, oil reserves and sea routes. Experts believe that in the coming years the Arctic region can become a major center of world politics and economy.
