love and care in relationships
The foundation of any relationship is on love, trust and affection. Hugging, holding hands or openly expressing love towards your partner helps in strengthening a married life. But, if your partner suddenly starts showing excessive affection, takes care of you all the time, or the relationship quickly seems “perfect,” this could be a warning sign. Let us know why you should be cautious in such circumstances.
increasing risk of divorce
A study, published in the *Journal of Personality and Social Psychology*, found that couples who show excessive love at the beginning of their relationship have a higher risk of divorce. Researchers studied 168 couples for 13 years and observed that those who were very romantic at the beginning of their relationship were more likely to break up over time. According to the study, such couples show about one-third more love than couples whose marriages remain happy and strong for a long time.
danger of excessive love
Claire Stott, data analyst and relationship psychologist at dating app Badoo, told *Business Insider* that excessive infatuation can often be an attempt to hide hidden problems in the relationship, such as a lack of trust or lack of communication. According to him, this kind of deep love is difficult to last for a long time. The more love there is in the beginning, the more emptiness one feels later.
Alarm bells: excessive love
Experts believe that every relationship goes through a “honeymoon phase”, in which both partners feel very close to each other. But, it is normal for this initial excitement to wane over time. Problems arise when a relationship is based on excessive emotions from the beginning. In such a situation, as soon as the initial excitement subsides, the partner feels that the love has ended. According to Claire Stott, a strong relationship doesn’t depend only on love; Honesty, trust, open communication and mutual support are the real foundations of a long-term relationship. If love is excessive in a relationship, it may also be a sign of overcompensation.
