Medical Emergency: A 50-year-old female patient, Meena Devi, died at Giridih Sadar Hospital allegedly due to non-availability of blood on time. The deceased was a resident of Maheshpur Fulchi of Muffasil police station area. There was panic in the hospital and health department after the incident.
Blood test will come through Ranchi
Meena Devi was admitted to the hospital on Thursday as her condition deteriorated. Doctors advised immediate blood transfusion. The family members themselves donated blood and deposited it in the blood bank, but the personnel said that the blood test would come through Ranchi and would be available by Friday morning.
Delay in processing and matching up to two hours
Since the house was near the hospital, the family took the woman home at night. When they came to collect blood on Friday morning, they were asked to collect the patient’s blood sample. Even after this, there was a delay in processing and matching for about two hours. During this time the family members appealed repeatedly, but no immediate action was taken. Due to not getting blood on time, the woman’s condition deteriorated and eventually she died.
Police intensified investigation into the case
As soon as information about the incident was received, there was chaos in the hospital premises. The family members started demanding action against the hospital management. City police station reached the spot and started investigating the case and talked to the family members.
Hours of delay in blood matching process
Taking the matter seriously, Civil Surgeon Dr. Bachha Singh sought a reply from the blood bank in-charge. Initial investigation revealed negligence on the part of the lab technician. Investigation revealed that there was a delay of about two hours in the blood matching process, due to which blood could not be made available on time.

The Civil Surgeon said that the process of terminating the services of the concerned lab technician has been initiated. Apart from this, the entire matter will be thoroughly investigated so that such incidents do not happen again in future.
