An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Shirdi was diverted to Navi Mumbai on Friday after bad weather at Shirdi Airport prevented a safe landing, officials said.
The aircraft, scheduled to land at Shirdi, was rerouted as adverse weather conditions persisted in the region, disrupting normal flight operations. Officials emphasized that the diversion was a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety.
Further details on the situation are awaited.
Earlier on Friday, IndiGo issued a travel advisory warning of heavy rainfall expected across Mumbai, which may slow road traffic in several areas. The airline urged passengers traveling to Mumbai airport to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.
“Heavy rain is expected across #Mumbai, and that may slow down road movement in some areas. If you are traveling to the airport, we suggest starting a little earlier than usual,” IndiGo posted on X. They advised travelers to monitor traffic updates and check flight status via the airline’s app or website before leaving for the airport.
“Our airport teams are monitoring the situation and are ready to assist you as needed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation,” the airline added.
Earlier this month, on May 8, an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Patna was similarly diverted to Lucknow due to poor weather conditions at Patna Airport. Flight 6E6917 (CCU-PAT) was redirected mid-air and landed safely at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at approximately 5:15 pm as a precautionary measure.
