Vijay Shankar Retirement: There is a lot of buzz about IPL 2026 across the country these days, this season has reached its final stage. Meanwhile, Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has announced his retirement from Indian Premier League and domestic cricket today i.e. on 22nd May. He has informed his fans about this by making an emotional post on social media. Vijay also told that he has taken this decision so that he can explore more possibilities.

An emotional post has been shared by Vijay Shankar on social media, in which he said that cricket is his life. He has retired from IPL and domestic cricket so that he can play more cricket. Vijay wrote,

Cricket is my life. I started playing at the age of 10 and now 25 years later, I feel fortunate and grateful to have had the opportunity to play at every level and at the highest level. Representing my country will always be one of the proudest and happiest moments of my life. I have decided to retire from domestic cricket and IPL so that I can explore new possibilities and play some more cricket. Thank you for letting me do what I love. I will always be grateful for this.

Vijay Shankar remembered the moments of his international career

While speaking further, Vijay Shankar has thanked BCCI and the Indian cricket team. He also remembered special moments. Which included playing India’s 500th ODI match and being a part of the 2019 World Cup. Vijay wrote,

Thanks to BCCI and Indian cricket team, I got to learn a lot from here, got countless memories and many inspirations too, representing the country will always be the biggest honor for me. Bowling the last over in India’s 500th ODI in Nagpur and bowling the first ball in the 2019 World Cup are moments I will always cherish. Special thanks to my IPL teams — GT, SRH, CSK and DC. Experiences and learning from different places have made me the player I am today.

Vijay Shankar’s career

Vijay Shankar has been one of the talented all-rounders of India, in the year 2018 he made his debut in T20 format against Sri Lanka. He played his last international match against West Indies on 27 June 2019. During this period, he played 12 ODI and 9 T20 International matches in which he scored 223 and 101 runs and added 4 and 5 wickets to his account respectively.

He has represented 4 teams in the Indian Premier League. Started IPL journey with Chennai Super Kings in 2014. After this, he was a part of Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and returned to Chennai again in IPL 2025. He scored 118 runs in 6 matches, after which he did not find any buyer in the auction.
