New Delhi: The big theater of Indian cricket ended at the Narendra Modi Stadium, but after Chennai Super Kings’ crushing 89-run defeat to Gujarat Titans, the talk shifted from the scorecard to a single question. CSK is officially out of the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs. As soon as the team’s journey came to an end, the biggest question of modern sport came to the fore again: What will happen to MS Dhoni now?

Has MS Dhoni retired?

Let us tell you that the franchise had maintained silence on this issue for many months. MS Dhoni did not play a single match this season. He did not even travel with the team for most of the away matches. Still, the shadow of his presence remained on the team going through transition. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said after the defeat that the world will know next year. After this, bowling coach Eric Simmons came to the press room and gave the clearest information on the future of number 7.

CSK gave a big update regarding MS Dhoni

In fact, after the last match played against Gujarat yesterday, when coach Simmons was asked whether this was Dhoni’s last season, he laughed. He said, are you really asking me this question? Simmons told that Dhoni was hitting the ball brilliantly in the nets. He said that I have never seen him hitting such a good shot before. But due to leg injury it was very difficult for him to run. That’s why he couldn’t play.

Injury stopped, but intention did not change!

Eric Simmons’ words made it clear that MS Dhoni’s desire to compete was strong. He was preparing to enter the field, but his body did not cooperate. Later, a new thumb injury ended any hopes of a comeback in the last matches of the season. Dhoni did not even travel for the last match in Ahmedabad and returned to Ranchi. Even while thanking the fans in Chepauk, his thumb was seen tied with tape.

Only Dhoni will take the decision

During this, Simmons also made it clear that despite the physical problem, the final decision is in the hands of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He said that MS himself will know when he is ready. If he feels that it is not right then he will not play. If it feels right then we will play. He will take decisions in the interest of the team, not for himself.

Gave three words answer to Mahi Raina

It is noteworthy that during the last home match of Chennai, Dhoni had given a hint to Suresh Raina. In Chepauk, Raina asked Mahi if he would play one last match next season. Dhoni did not close the door. He simply said: Let me see! In Dhoni’s language, these three words are the closest to the green signal of return. If the body cooperates, he can be seen once again in the yellow jersey for the farewell game in Chennai.
