PM Narendra Modi Met President Nikos Christodoulides: On Friday, a bilateral meeting was held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. This meeting is considered important economically, trade and culturally for both the countries.
In this meeting, discussions were held to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in many important areas like trade, investment, technology, education, culture, movement of people, defense and security, AI, fintech, innovation and research.
Before the meeting, the two leaders warmly welcomed each other and also took a selfie together. According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders also shared their views on regional and global issues as well as cooperation in international forums.
Discussion on global issues
Addressing a joint press conference with Cyprus President Christodoulides, PM Narendra Modi said, ‘Today we also discussed global issues. Be it Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support efforts to end the conflict as soon as possible and establish peace. We are also unanimous that reform of global institutions is extremely necessary and important to solve the growing global challenges.”
Agreement on migration and mobility agreed
Prime Minister Modi said, “To further strengthen our relations, we have signed a ‘Migration and Mobility Agreement’ (Migration and Mobility Agreement) and ‘Social Security Agreement’ But a consensus has been reached. We are also making agreements in the field of higher education and culture.”
On the matter to terrorism, PM Modi said, ‘Our defense cooperation with Cyprus has also increased. We have also decided to expand cooperation in the areas of cyber security, maritime security and counter-terrorism.”
President Christodoulides pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
Earlier in the day, President Christodoulides visited Rajghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also met President Christodoulides and appreciated his positive views on India-Cyprus relations and India-EU cooperation.

After the meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took to social media platform ‘X’ Posting on , he said, It was a great pleasure to meet the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, in New Delhi. I appreciate his positive views and guidance on strengthening India-Cyprus relations and India-EU cooperation.
