The England striker currently on loan has found a far more enjoyable spell at Barcelona, where the club holds an option to make his move permanent this summer.
Marcus Rashford’s future remains uncertain as reports indicate that Barcelona are considering revising the terms of the clause that could lead to his full transfer to the Nou Camp.
The Manchester United academy product had fallen out of favour for an extended period under managers Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, eventually securing a loan move to Aston Villa in January 2025.
After that stint, Rashford went out on loan once again the following summer, this time joining Spanish heavyweights Barcelona.
Rashford’s loan deal reportedly includes a €30 million (£26.2 million) purchase option that Barcelona can activate at the end of the season.
Given Premier League market dynamics, that figure appears modest for a player who has rediscovered his spark in Catalonia, producing ten goals and thirteen assists across 34 appearances in all competitions this season.
Despite that, there have been claims suggesting Barcelona were looking to renegotiate the fee to a lower amount.
However, according to Danyal Khan of Sky Sports, Barcelona have no desire to renegotiate Rashford’s transfer price, and Manchester United would firmly reject any attempt to do so.
That doesn’t necessarily confirm that Barcelona will activate the clause, but for now, indications suggest the Spanish club are satisfied with the existing terms agreed with United.
On the other side, though, reports from the Daily Mirror suggest Manchester United may be regretting the relatively low figure of the buyout clause.
The report adds that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS now believe Rashford’s impressive performances for Barcelona have raised his valuation to around €50 million (£43.7 million).
It seems the club may have been too quick to part ways with one of their most talented players, influenced by two managerial regimes that failed to get the best out of him.
Rashford’s resurgence at both Aston Villa and Barcelona has also seen him recalled to the England national team by Thomas Tuchel, after missing out on selection for over a year.
He is now expected to be included in England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup this summer.
