Manchester United confident of completing £139m double deal, but pursuit of Newcastle defender faces hurdles

Manchester United are reportedly growing increasingly confident of completing the signings of two new midfielders in a massive £139 million double transfer, although their pursuit of a highly rated Newcastle United defender is encountering complications.

The Red Devils are preparing for a busy summer as they gear up for a UEFA Champions League campaign and aim to compete for major trophies under their newly appointed permanent manager, Michael Carrick.

Reinforcing the midfield has been a long-term priority, and while several players are under consideration, new reports indicate that United have received a significant boost in their efforts to land two of their main targets.

According to well-known Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United are now ‘confident’ of securing the signings of both Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Atalanta’s Ederson.

The Red Devils are set to part ways with Casemiro at the end of the season, and it is widely expected that Manuel Ugarte will also be sold.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson remains their top target. However, with Forest now safe from relegation, reports suggest the club will demand a staggering £125 million for the player.

If that price proves too steep, Manchester United will turn to alternative options. According to Di Marzio, INEOS are already exploring other avenues, with Tonali and Ederson emerging as the leading candidates.

Reports suggest that Newcastle are considering selling one or possibly two of their key players this summer to raise funds for a squad overhaul. While they would prefer to keep Tonali, an offer in the region of £100 million might force them to reconsider.

Meanwhile, Atalanta are ready to cash in on Ederson, who has only one year remaining on his contract. TEAMtalk sources confirm that the Serie A club are seeking €45 million (approximately £39 million) for the three-cap Brazil international, who has already agreed to join Manchester United.

At the same time, United have shown strong interest in Newcastle’s young left-back Lewis Hall. The 21-year-old has been one of the Magpies’ standout players this season, despite being surprisingly excluded from England’s World Cup squad by manager Thomas Tuchel.

Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is said to be a major admirer of Hall and has reportedly made it his personal goal to bring the defender to Old Trafford this summer.

However, United face stiff competition for Hall’s signature. Arsenal have been long-term admirers and continue to track his development closely, while Chelsea, his former club, also remain interested in the player they sold two years ago.

Liverpool are another club that have monitored Hall over an extended period, appreciating his defensive and attacking qualities on the left flank.

TEAMtalk also reports that Bayern Munich are showing serious interest in Hall. The Bundesliga giants have already held discussions with Newcastle regarding Anthony Gordon and previously made enquiries about Tino Livramento. They are now expected to pursue talks over Hall as part of their plan to reinforce their defence for next season.

In related news, Casemiro is set to join Major League Soccer side Inter Miami once his Manchester United contract ends this summer. A lucrative deal has already been agreed, with the Brazilian rejecting an approach from another US-based team.

Casemiro is expected to make his final appearance for the club against Brighton this weekend, closing the chapter on an illustrious European career that saw him achieve significant success with both Real Madrid and Manchester United.

TEAMtalk previously reported widespread interest in the 34-year-old midfielder, with clubs from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Brazil all exploring potential moves. However, new sources confirm that Casemiro has decided to continue his career in the MLS, specifically with Inter Miami, as his preferred destination.
