The Dutch manager remains under scrutiny as Liverpool reportedly explore alternatives following an underwhelming defence of their Premier League title.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is set to continue in his role next season, despite widespread speculation suggesting the club may part ways with him.
The Reds have endured a disappointing campaign in Slot’s second year in charge and could conclude their Premier League title defence as low as sixth place in the standings.
The team has struggled across competitions — bowing out of the FA Cup in the quarter-finals, exiting the Carabao Cup in the fourth round, and suffering a limp Champions League elimination at the same quarter-final stage.
With Bournemouth closely trailing them ahead of the Premier League’s final matchday, reports surfaced on Thursday hinting that Liverpool might attempt to lure the Bournemouth manager.
Arne Slot is now just one game away from concluding a season to forget.
Andoni Iraola, who will leave Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium as his contract expires at the end of this season, has been touted as a possible fit for Liverpool given his preference for high-tempo attacking football.
However, sources close to the club have dismissed these rumours as unfounded.
According to The Athletic’s James Pearce on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Liverpool’s position on Arne Slot remains unchanged – despite a day of social media rumours.”
Slot is therefore expected to lead Liverpool into the upcoming season, aiming to rediscover the form that helped the Reds clinch the Premier League title in 2025.
Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth has nonetheless been mentioned as a potential successor to Slot should the situation change.
Slot’s tenure has been hampered by multiple challenges, including injuries to several high-profile summer signings and a dip in form from Mohamed Salah, whose performances and attitude have reportedly tested the manager’s authority.
Following a damaging 4-2 defeat against Aston Villa last week, Slot urged supporters to rally behind the team in their final league fixture at Anfield against Brentford, emphasising that unity was crucial to turning their fortunes around.
“Our focus is on the Brentford game and ensuring we earn the fans’ backing by starting aggressively and playing well,” Slot said.
“If we can combine strong fan support with a solid performance, we can achieve our goal, which is to qualify for the Champions League.”
He added: “Generally, teams tend to struggle more away from home, but for a top side like ours, we’ve lost and dropped far too many points. A big part of that comes down to how easily we’ve conceded goals. We’ve created opportunities, but we haven’t been as clinical in finishing them as we were last season.”
“It hasn’t helped that [Alexander] Isak has barely featured for us or that Hugo [Ekitike] has been unavailable. It is what it is. Next week, our full attention will be on Brentford.”
