Weather Updates | Maharashtra is likely to see different weather patterns on May 21. Thunderstorm rains and gale force winds are predicted in one part of the state, while in Vidarbha on the other side, severe heat wave is going to test the citizens. Against this backdrop, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow, orange and red alerts for many districts of the state and appealed to the citizens to be alert. Interestingly, the temperature is predicted to touch 46 degrees Celsius in some districts. Therefore, the administration has warned that avoid going out of the house during the afternoon, drink enough water and take care of your health.

Heat ravages Vidarbha

A severe heat wave is expected to hit many districts of Vidarbha. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘red alert’ for Akola, Amravati and Wardha districts. The maximum temperature in these parts is likely to go beyond 45 to 46 degrees Celsius, increasing the risk of heat stroke. Besides, ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Nagpur, Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts. Rain warning in Konkan

On the other hand, the Konkan belt is likely to experience major changes in climate. Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts may experience light to moderate rain with cloudy skies. A ‘yellow alert’ has been issued especially for Sindhudurg district. Increasing humid weather in coastal areas may add to the discomfort of citizens. The maximum temperature in these parts is expected to be between 32 to 34 degree Celsius.

Thunderstorm in Pune, Satara and Kolhapur

Western Maharashtra is also showing signs of climate change. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain and gusty winds with thundershowers in Pune, Satara and Kolhapur districts in the afternoon. In particular, a yellow alert has been issued for *Kolhapur district, and farmers and citizens have been advised to be alert due to sudden weather changes. Cloudy weather in North Maharashtra

Although heat will persist in Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts of North Maharashtra, cloudy weather and light rain showers are expected in some parts. The temperature in these parts is expected to be between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius.

Heat continues in Marathwada

Hot and dry weather is likely to persist over most parts of Marathwada, including Latur and Dharashiv districts. However, light showers with gusty winds may occur at isolated places. Temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius in these parts.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has urged citizens to take special precautions to avoid heat- illnesses. It has been said that especially children, senior citizens and citizens who work outside should avoid exposure to the hot afternoon sun, drink enough water and take necessary precautions.
