American aircraft carrier USS Nimitz has reached the Caribbean Sea with its strike group. This information has come to light in a report by ‘The Hill’. This deployment comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has intensified his rhetoric towards Cuba and threatened action against the island nation. According to the report, the purpose of this deployment is to strengthen the US military presence in the region.
What is special about USS Nimitz Strike Group?
This powerful strike group of the US Navy includes F/A-18E Super Hornet fighter aircraft, EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft and C-2 Greyhound support aircraft. It is also accompanied by the USS Gridley destroyer and the USNS Patuxent fuel supply ship. The US Southern Command (Southcom) confirmed this, saying that the USS Nimitz has proven its combat capability around the world, from the Taiwan Strait to the Arabian Gulf, ensuring stability and protecting democracy.
The aircraft carrier, commissioned in 1975, recently participated in joint naval exercises with the Brazilian Navy off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. This information was given by the US Embassy in Brazil.
Trump administration increased pressure on Cuba
According to the report, the Trump administration has toughened its stance against Cuba in recent days. The US Justice Department has formally charged former Cuban President Raul Castro with murder and other crimes to the 1996 downing of two civilian airliners over international waters, killing four people. Trump called it a big moment for the Cuban-American community. Trump said “This is very important. This was a huge moment not only for Cuban Americans, but also for people from Cuba who want to go back to Cuba, want to visit their families in Cuba.”
Marco Rubio’s Spanish message
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a message in Spanish to the Cuban people. He blamed Cuba’s communist government for the power crisis and economic problems. Rubio also supported America’s fuel blockade policy. CIA Director John Ratcliffe recently met with Cuban officials. He clearly said that the possibility of talks will not always remain open. After this statement the tension in diplomatic circles has increased further.
