Every government or private sector employee keeps a close watch on their PF funds. Your PF balance serves as the most significant proof of your permanent employment status. Furthermore, for the financial year 2025-26, EPFO members are earning an annual interest rate of 8.25% on their accumulated PF balance. Consequently, while most people wish to view the balance deposited in their PF accounts, they often do not know the correct procedure to do so. Today, we will outline four different methods for checking your PF balance. Additionally, we will explore the reasons why you might encounter difficulties when attempting to view your balance.
**Check via the Website**
To check your balance online, visit the official EPFO website.
On the homepage, you will immediately see an option labeled "Our Services"; select this option.
From there, select "For Employees" (listed as the second option) and then click on "Member Passbook."
You will now need to log in by entering your 12-digit UAN (Universal Account Number) and your password.
After logging in, select your relevant Member ID.
Your complete PF Passbook and Total Balance will now be displayed on your screen.
**Check via the UMANG App**
To use this method, you must first download the UMANG App.
After logging in, navigate to the "All Services" section.
Search for "EPFO" within this section and select the "Employee Centric Services" option.
Now, click on "View Passbook."
You will be required to enter your UAN here; your PF balance will then be displayed after verification via an OTP.
**Check via SMS**
Checking your PF balance via SMS is another convenient method available to you. You can easily check your PF balance through SMS, even without an internet connection. However, your UAN must be active, and your eKYC formalities must be completed. To use this service, you need to send a text message from your registered mobile number to 7738299899. The SMS format is: 'EPFOHO UAN LAN'. Here, replace 'UAN' with your 12-digit Universal Account Number, and replace 'LAN' with the first three letters of your preferred language (e.g., HIN for Hindi, ENG for English, MAR for Marathi). You will then receive a reply to your message displaying your current PF balance.
Check Your PF Balance via a Missed Call
If you are unable to check your PF balance using the internet or a mobile app—or if you find these methods to be a hassle—you can simply check your balance by placing a missed call. To do this, dial the number 9966044425 from your phone. The call will disconnect automatically after two rings. Within a few seconds, you will receive an SMS on your phone displaying your total balance and your last contribution. However, please note that you must place this missed call from the specific mobile number that is registered with your UAN.
Why Is Your PF Balance Not Visible?
Many people complain that, despite utilizing all the aforementioned methods, they are still unable to view their funds. Let's understand why such issues arise. It is worth noting that, due to technical updates and security protocols, users sometimes encounter difficulties such as pending UAN activation or a "Member ID not seeded" status. Furthermore, if a user's eKYC details (Aadhaar, PAN, Bank Account) are incomplete, the PF balance will not be displayed.
