New Delhi. The discussions about Cockroach Janata Party are continuously gaining momentum. CJP has more than 1 crore followers on Instagram. The special thing is that this party was born after the comments of CJI i.e. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. However, this party is not registered with the Election Commission of India. However, the CJI has clarified his comment and said that it was misrepresented in the media. Know who Abhijeet Deepke, the founder of Cockroach Janata Party, is.
According to media reports, this party, started online by Pune resident Abhijit Deepke, describes itself on its website as a ‘party of the youth, by the youth, for the youth’ and its slogan is ‘secular, socialist, democratic, lazy’. Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijit Deepke did his graduation in Journalism from Pune and later went to America to do post graduation in Public Relations from Boston University.
There are reports that between 2020 and 2023, he was involved in the social media and election campaign work of Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In 2020, when AAP won the Delhi Assembly elections, Deepke was looking after digital campaigning based on memes. However, he later distanced himself from the political arena and went abroad.
The party’s online post humorously states that to become a member one must be ‘unemployed, online all the time, professionally annoying and lazy’. Amidst this humor and satire, Cockroach Janata Party has also raised serious issues like youth unemployment, exam paper leak controversy, systemic transparency and political representation. The party has also said that it will soon organize a Gen Z virtual conference, where the youth will discuss policies and governance.
Apart from this, the manifesto of the Cockroach Janata Party published online demands a ban on all political posts for the Chief Justice after retirement, 50 percent reservation for women, freedom of media and a 20-year ban on turncoat politicians.
Social media users seem divided regarding Cockroach Janata Party. Some social media users have called it mere meme politics. While others say that this is the first time that a platform is speaking directly to the youth in their own language about their immediate concerns.
