Washington. A new debate has erupted in America regarding the rights of people who acquire naturalized citizenship. Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace has introduced a constitutional amendment proposal that seeks to prevent naturalized US citizens from being appointed to key positions such as members of Congress, federal judges and Senate confirmation. Democratic leaders have reacted sharply to this proposal and called it racist, hateful and against people of foreign origin. Naturalized citizenship means that a person is not a citizen of that country by birth, but later acquires citizenship of that country by completing the legal process.
South Carolina MP Mace issued a statement on social media saying that she has introduced a long-pending constitutional amendment. He argued that to become the President and Vice President of America, it is already necessary to be a natural born citizen, that is, an American citizen by birth, hence the same rule should also apply to the positions approved by Congress, federal courts and Senate. Mace also shared photos of Democratic lawmakers Ilhan Omar, Pramila Jayapal and Mr Thanedar in her post. Among them, Omar is an American of Somalian origin, while Jaipal and Thanedar are leaders of Indian origin.

Mace said in his statement that the people who write America’s laws, confirm judges and represent America in front of the world should have loyalty only towards America, not towards any other country. Specifically mentioning Ilhan Omar, he said that the loyalty of some leaders is visible outside America.
Democratic lawmakers strongly criticized this proposal. Indian-origin MP Pramila Jaipal called it narrow-minded, anti-foreign mentality and an insult to America’s history. He said that this bill is inspired by racism and should have no place in Congress.
Indian origin MP Shri Thanedar also made a scathing attack on the mess. He wrote on social media that people who have worked hard to come to America and are contributing to the country, should correct their behavior before targeting them.
At the same time, another MP of Indian origin Raja Krishnamurthy said that this proposal is morally wrong and everyone should stand united against the hatred and bigotry hidden behind it.
Democratic Congresswoman Susan Bonamici also criticized Mace, saying that there are many foreign-born members of Congress, but Mace targeted only three Democratic leaders with racist and progressive ideologies. He termed it as racist and hateful politics.
