MAPUSA: Mapusa Police have registered an FIR against two youths for allegedly conducting an illegal motorcycle race on the NH-66 highway between Bastora and Guirim in the early hours of May 19.
The accused have been identified as Samarth Khorjuvekar and Ayush Deuskar. Police said the action was initiated after a video of the alleged race went viral on social media.
According to police, the incident reportedly took place around 1 AM on the busy highway stretch, raising serious safety concerns for motorists and daily commuters.
The accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Motor Vehicles Act, National Highways Act and Goa Police Act for rash and dangerous riding, endangering public safety and allegedly using modified motorcycles.
Bardez Sub-Divisional Police Officer Salim Shaikh said police have launched an investigation into the incident and efforts are underway to trace all riders involved and verify their addresses.
Shaikh stated that illegal racing activities on public roads would not be tolerated and warned that strict action would be taken against those violating traffic and safety regulations.
Police are also examining the viral footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
