Meta Layoffs: The perception of job security in major tech firms has been shaken by Meta's recent layoffs. A story circulating on social media has touched the hearts of many, revealing the emotional toll on employees.
In a viral post, an employee shared the experience of a colleague who dedicated months of sleepless nights to a significant company project, only to be unexpectedly laid off. This incident has sparked widespread discussion online.
'Layoffs Not Just for Poor Performers'
A message from a Meta employee challenges the common belief that layoffs target those with poor performance. It highlights the arbitrary nature of corporate restructuring decisions, affecting thousands of tech workers facing similar situations.
'Please don't assume that those laid off from Meta were underperformers. I consider myself an average employee, and I feel terrible that I survived while my colleague did not,' the employee wrote in a post titled 'I Feel Bad for Surviving.' This statement contradicts the notion that layoffs are solely based on performance and reveals the unpredictable nature of company restructuring.
Months of Hard Work and Sacrifice
The anonymous employee described their laid-off colleague as 'incredibly humble and reliable,' who had recently worked on a crucial project with a tight deadline. 'She put in her best effort and often slept less than four hours a night for months. I believe she fell ill multiple times due to the excessive workload, and now she has been abruptly let go,' they shared.
Job Loss Despite a Stellar Record
Despite having an impressive track record, working on significant projects, reaching the IC4 level (mid to senior engineer), and receiving no performance warnings, the employee was unexpectedly terminated. The post further stated, 'I genuinely don't understand why they chose her among so many others, especially given her excellent record and contributions to important projects. She was also very polite and courteous.'
'When Did You Even Sleep?'
Reflecting on the months leading up to the layoffs, the employee recalled their colleague's extraordinary dedication, saying, 'I remember seeing her publish commits at 3 AM and then again at 6 AM. When did you even sleep?' They expressed disbelief at the timing of the layoffs.
At the end of the post, they urged, 'Please be kind to everyone and avoid generalizing about those who have been laid off.'
