United Nations. Condemning Pakistan’s “long tarnished” history of acts of genocide, India told the UN Security Council that the country’s inhumane conduct reflects decades of efforts to externalize its internal failures through acts of violence within and outside the border.

Participating in the UN Security Council’s annual symposium on ‘Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict’ on Wednesday, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Harish Parvatneni said, “It is ironical that Pakistan, with its long tarnished history of acts of genocide, has chosen to cite issues that are entirely India’s internal matters.” Parvataneni’s remarks came after the representative of Pakistan raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Raising the issue of Pakistan’s attacks on Afghanistan earlier this year, Parvataneni said, “The world has not forgotten that in March this year during the holy month of Ramzan, a time of peace, reflection and mercy, Pakistan carried out a barbaric airstrike on the Omid de-addiction hospital in Kabul.”

He said that according to UNAMA (United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan), “269 civilians lost their lives and 122 others were injured in this cowardly and inhumane act of violence, while this facility can in no way be justified as a military target.”

Parvataneni said it was “hypocrisy” of Pakistan to “target innocent civilians in the dark” while supporting the high principles of international law. According to UNAMA, the airstrikes by Pakistan occurred after Taraweeh prayers had ended, when many patients were leaving the mosque. According to UNAMA, more than 94,000 people have been displaced by cross-border armed violence against Afghan civilians.
