The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (19) announced the Indian squad for the Test and ODI series against Afghanistan. Team India will play one Test and three ODI matches against Afghanistan in June. Before this, major changes have been made in the teams. 9 experienced players have been dropped from the Test and ODI teams. While a total of four new faces have been selected in the team. These include players like Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey and Prince Yadav. Harsh Dubey and Gurnoor Brar have been selected for the Test and ODI teams. Prince Yadav is included only in the ODI team. Whereas Manav Suthar has been selected only in the Test team.

These experienced players got a break
Akash Deep could not make it to the team for the Test match against Afghanistan due to injury, while experienced players Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested. At the same time, experienced players like Harshit Rana, Rishabh Pant, Ayush Badoni, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj have been dropped from the team for the ODI series. Harshit Rana did not get a place in the team due to injury. According to media reports, Mohammad Siraj and Rishabh Pant have been dropped from the team due to their performance. The team management wants to try a new option in place of Ravindra Jadeja, so he has also been rested. India played the last Test series against South Africa.

Gurnoor Brar

Punjab fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has been included in the team for the first time for the Test and ODI series against Afghanistan. Gurnoor made his List A debut against Goa in December 2022. He made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings in 2023. Later, Gujarat Titans bought him for Rs 1.30 crore.

Harsh Dubey

Maharashtra spinner Harsh Dubey has been selected in the squad for both the Test and ODI series against Afghanistan. His brilliant performance by taking 69 wickets in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy caught the attention of many people.

Manav Suthar has been included in the squad for the Afghanistan Test series. Manav Suthar plays for Rajasthan in domestic cricket and Gujarat Titans in IPL. Suthar performed brilliantly in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season. He took 39 wickets in the entire season. After his stellar performance in domestic cricket, he got a chance to showcase his skills on a big stage like IPL. He was bought by Gujarat Titans for IPL 2024 for Rs 20 lakh.
