Before the NEET-UG re-exam, the Center in collaboration with Meta, Google and Telegram has tightened the digital clampdown on fake paper leak gang, suspicious Telegram channels and viral bot networks. Intelligence agencies fear that organized disinformation may again create panic among students and create distrust in the examination.
New Delhi: Just before the re-examination of the country's biggest and sensitive medical entrance examination (NEET-UG), the central government has taken an unprecedented step. Learning from the recent paper leak controversy, the government has joined hands with the uncrowned kings of the internet world - Meta, Google and Telegram - to restore the country's confidence in the examination. After a high-level meeting held on Wednesday, it has become clear that this time not only the examination centers but also the hidden corners of social media will be closely guarded by the third eye of the government.

Telegram bots and anonymous groups: Big revelation by intelligence agencies
In this high-level meeting chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, security and intelligence agencies presented a very shocking report. Investigation has revealed that just before major examinations, some organized disinformation networks and automated bots suddenly become active. These networks deliberately create panic among students and parents by spreading fabricated claims of paper leak, clickbait messages and fake question papers through Telegram channels and anonymous groups. According to officials, investigation has found that these suspicious channels are being operated from a limited number of phone numbers only, which points towards a large and organized digital syndicate.

Tech giants' assurance: Fake information will be blocked immediately from 'Search' to 'Chat'
Seeing the tough stance of the government, big companies like Meta, Google and Telegram have assured to provide active support in this digital cleanliness campaign. The Education Minister has given clear instructions to the companies to coordinate in real-time with the National Testing Agency (NTA) and law enforcement agencies. As soon as any link or message making fake claims of “inside information” or “leaked paper” appears on any platform, it will be immediately tracked and deleted. Especially on encrypted messaging platforms, a close watch is being kept so that no group can be formed overnight to defraud students.
Government in 'zero tolerance' mode: strict vigil from ground to sky
New maze of security: To completely eliminate all the shortcomings identified in the previous examination process, the Education Minister has directly fielded the District Magistrates (DM) and Superintendents of Police (SP) of all the states. Instructions have been given to make the security arrangements of the examination centers impenetrable. This re-exam is being conducted because the previous exam held on May 3 had to be canceled following complaints of paper leak. This time the government is in no mood to take any kind of risk. While on one hand rumor mongers are being cracked down on in the digital world, on the other hand, orders have also been given to ensure smooth arrangements in transportation, drinking water and centers for the convenience of students. It remains to be seen how much this digital and ground maze of the government is able to thwart the intentions of the solver gang and rumormongers this time.
