“Singapore, we have arrived,” Sederhana said in an Instagram post on May 17, without revealing the opening date.

The restaurant chain serves nasi padang, a traditional Indonesian food consisting of steamed rice and different choices of pre-cooked dishes including meats, fish and vegetables.

A representative told Malaysian language news platform Mediacorp News that the chain is targeting a May 29 opening for the outlet at 738 North Bridge Road, with an official launch expected in mid-June.

“A legacy that began decades ago is now finding a new home beyond borders,” Sederhana said in its Instagram post. “After a long search for the right place, we’re proud to bring the taste of Indonesia to Kampong Glam, marking another meaningful chapter in our journey.”

Founded in 1972, Sederhana operates more than 200 outlets across Indonesia serving Minangkabau cuisine. The Minangkabau are the largest ethnic group in Sumatra, a large island in western Indonesia.

Outside Indonesia, the chain currently has three outlets in Malaysia. The brand is also expected to launch a branch in Melbourne, Australia, as reported by The Straits Times.

Its new Singapore location used to belong to Warong Nasi Pariaman, one of the oldest Indonesian food eateries in Singapore, which closed at the end of January after 78 years of service.
