Brits are being warned to move their mirrors in time for the Bank Holiday weekend to avoid damage to their homes. Industry experts shared that the public should make sure their mirrors are out of the way of direct sunlight ahead of Friday, with temperatures set to soar.

The Met Office released information on a potential heatwave earlier today, with a predicted 8C increase mapped by the service. The average temperature could leap from 20C on Wednesday, to 24C on Thursday, and reach highs of 28C on Friday. The average temperature shared on the graph could prove promising to those hoping for a heatwave this Bank Holiday weekend.

Ahead of the warmer weather and sunshine, experts are urging Brits to move reflective items including mirrors and glass away from spots of direct sunlight.

Angèle Sofia, jewellery expert at L'ERA, said: "It's not just magnifying mirrors that can pose a fire risk if they reflect sunlight. Mirrored jewellery boxes, crystal trinket trays, glass holders and other reflective items around the home can also be a concern, but they are often overlooked.

"The safest option is to move these items away from the window entirely, such as onto an internal wall, inside a drawer, or onto a surface that does not receive direct sunlight during the day."

Experts at L'ERA add that if sunlight is directed onto flammable materials, it can generate enough heat to start a house fire.

A statement from the Met Office has told Brits to brace for what could be volatile weather conditions, with showers and sun both possible.

The statement reads: "The UK's cool and unsettled weather will make way for increasingly warm conditions on Friday, with the warmest day of the year so far on the way and pleasant weather at times through the weekend.

"Rain and cloud continues to affect the UK over the next few days, keeping conditions unsettled, with Wednesday seeing variable cloud and outbreaks of rain, particularly across northern areas."

Sunday is likely to maintain these warmer than usual conditions. The weather service added: "Sunday sees high pressure becoming the dominant influence, reducing rainfall chances and allowing temperatures to remain above average. This follows through to the start of next week with warm and fine weather likely for many."
