Arsenal are set to receive their largest-ever Premier League payment after finally ending a 22-year wait to lift the league title, marking a monumental financial and sporting success for the club.
Under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, the Gunners have overcome three consecutive seasons as runners-up to clinch the championship with one match still left to play. The victory secures not only silverware but also a substantial boost to the club’s finances.
On Sunday, Arsenal will travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, where the players will be welcomed onto the pitch with a guard of honour. Following the final whistle, captain Martin Odegaard will officially lift the Premier League trophy, capping off a historic campaign for the North London side.
Finishing top of the table means Arsenal will receive their biggest Premier League payment ever. The league’s distribution system awards clubs based on their final standings, with the merit payments structured on a sliding scale from first to twentieth place.
According to the Premier League, “as part of the central payment distribution, clubs earn funds based on their finishing position in the table. These merit payments are determined by a scale that allocates the largest share to the champions and progressively less to those below.”
“For instance, Arsenal will receive 20 times the base merit payment, while the second-placed team will receive 19 times that amount, and the pattern continues downward. Last season, each position was valued at around £2.6 million, meaning Liverpool, as champions, earned approximately £53.1 million, whereas bottom-placed Southampton took home £2.6 million.”
In addition to their domestic success, Arsenal have also reportedly accumulated over £120 million from their remarkable run to the Champions League final. A victory in Budapest in 10 days’ time would further increase that total, making this season one of the most lucrative in the club’s history.
