New Delhi: Defence company Nibe Ltd has successfully tested long-range rocket system Suryastra at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur on Wednesday.
During the trial, two versions of the rocket were tested. One had a range of 150 km, and the other could travel up to 300 km. Both versions hit their targets with high accuracy.
Rockets showed very precise performance, with an accuracy of about 1.5 metres and 2 metres. This means the rockets landed very close to their intended targets.
What is Suryastra?
Suryastra is a multi calibre, long-range rocket launcher system made in India. It is designed to hit targets far away, up to around 300 km. It can be used to strike important enemy positions such as command centres, air defence systems, radar stations, ammunition storage sites, logistics bases and troop locations.
Why it is important
Suryastra gives the Indian Army the ability to strike long-distance targets without using aircraft or cruise missiles in some situations. This can make response faster and reduce costs.
Because the system is highly accurate, it can also reduce collateral damage and needs fewer rockets to destroy a target.
Mobility and protection
The system is mounted on a mobile truck. It can fire and then quickly move to another location. This helps it avoid being targeted by enemy radar or drones.
Modern warfare role
Modern warfare depends more on drones, satellites, and precision weapons. Large troop movements are easier to detect now, so armies need fast, accurate, and mobile strike systems. Suryastra is designed for this kind of warfare.
Strategic importance for India
The system supports India’s goal of building its own defence technology under Aatmanirbhar Bharat. It also strengthens India’s ability to respond quickly in border areas and improves long-range strike capability.
