Guru Purana
The biggest truth of life is death, which no one can deny. The conversation between Lord Vishnu and his vehicle Garuda regarding these mysteries of death is described in Garuda Purana. Once Garuda asked Lord Vishnu, how does a man die and what does he experience in his last moments? On this Lord Vishnu replied something like this.
Lord Vishnu says that when a person is about to die, his senses start to relax. Exactly 5 minutes before death, the person enters a special state called the emergence of divine vision. In this state, the events of his entire life begin to unfold before him; All his good and bad deeds come before his eyes. At this time, his speech becomes slow. He cannot speak even if he wants to. At this time, Yamdoot (messenger of death) arrives there. At this time, the sinful soul finds the form of Yama extremely fearful and strange, while the virtuous and pious soul sees an angel full of divine radiance.
The path after death and the journey to Yamalok
After death, Yamdoot takes the soul captive and takes it to Yamalok. It is a difficult and long journey. On this route comes the river Vaitarani, which is a terrible river full of blood and pus, in which live terrible creatures and crocodiles who torment the sinful souls. This route passes through many cities where the soul is punished according to its past deeds. Somewhere there is fire, somewhere there is ice and somewhere there is thorny forest.
There is a story about King Shweta, who did only charity and charity throughout his life and did not offer offerings to his ancestors. For this reason, after death they will get a palace of gold, but they will not get food and they will suffer a lot. After this they will have to suffer the consequences of their deeds.
Yamraj's court and justice
In the court of Yamraj, Chitragupta presents a complete description of the deeds of every living being and no truth can remain hidden there. Here every person is punished according to his deeds: for example, those who have looted someone's money are sent to a blazing cauldron-like hell. Those who have insulted their gurus or elders have to suffer Raurava hell.
Those who insult women are given severe torture. Lord Vishnu explains that a person who donates cows, gives water to the thirsty or feeds the hungry does not have to face any kind of difficulty in the difficult path to Yamalok and his soul attains deep peace.
