New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted packets of ‘Melody’ chocolates to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Rome on Wednesday, adding another viral moment to the popular ‘Melodi’ trend on social media.
Meloni later shared a light-hearted video on X thankingPM Modi for the gift. In the clip, she said, “Prime Minister Modi brought as a gift, a very, very good toffee — Melody.”
The word ‘Melodi’ became popular online during earlier interactions between the two leaders. The term combines the surnames Modi and Meloni and is often used by social media users while referring to their meetings and public appearances together.

PM Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday for the final leg of his five-nation foreign tour. Meloni welcomed him in the Italian capital and later shared a photograph with him on X with the message, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!”
After his arrival, the two leaders held a dinner meeting before taking a late-evening walk through the historic Colosseum.
Sharing photographs from the evening on X, PM Modi wrote, “Upon landing in Rome, had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner followed by a visit to the iconic Colosseum.”
“We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of subjects. Looking forward to our talks today, where we will continue the conversation on how to boost the India-Italy friendship,” he added.
‘Car diplomacy’ moments go viralSeveral videos and pictures from the visit circulated widely online. Social media users described some of the moments as “car diplomacy” after visuals showed the two leaders travelling together through Rome’s streets before reaching the Colosseum.
Onewidely shared image showed PM Modi and Meloni standing side by side inside the illuminated monument while speaking to each other. Another candid photograph captured them leaning against a railing overlooking Rome’s skyline during sunset.
PM Modi wore a dark navy blue bandhgala suit with white churidar trousers during the visit. Meloni wore a light pink embroidered top paired with white trousers.
PM Modi views artworks inspired by VaranasiDuring his Rome visit, PM Modi also viewed artworks created by Italian painter Giampaolo Tomassetti. The paintings drew inspiration from Varanasi and Indian spiritual traditions.
