The government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has made a pivotal decision to enhance the financial support for veterinary science students in the state. During a cabinet meeting in Lucknow on Monday, it was announced that the monthly internship stipend for these students will be increased from ₹4,000 to ₹12,000.
This increase is expected to provide significant financial relief to veterinary students and uplift their spirits as they pursue their studies.
Minister's Insights on the Decision
Dharampal Singh, the Minister for Dairy Development and Animal Husbandry, emphasized the importance of veterinary professionals in Uttar Pradesh, a state known for its large population and livestock. He noted that veterinary doctors play a crucial role in maintaining animal health, managing epidemics, and enhancing livestock quality.
He also mentioned that the increased stipend will apply to students at the Uttar Pradesh Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Veterinary Science University, Gaushala Research Institute, Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology.
Impact on Students
The UP government estimates that over 300 students will benefit from this stipend increase. Previously receiving ₹4,000, these students will now enjoy a monthly allowance of ₹12,000. This decision was influenced by the higher stipends offered in states like Haryana, Karnataka, and Kerala.
Minister Singh indicated that implementing this proposal will incur an additional cost of around ₹4.20 crore for the government, which will be funded through the non-salary component of university grants. He believes this initiative will enhance student morale, encourage educational pursuits, and promote equality among students.
