Switzerland has been named the world’s best country for 2026 in the latest Best Countries rankings, according to US News & World Report. The rankings assessed 100 countries across factors such as governance, economic development, health, infrastructure, opportunity and civic health. India did not feature in the top 10 list dominated by European nations.
According to the report, Switzerland retained the top position because of its strong performance in economic, institutional and social indicators. The country was followed by Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Netherlands in the top five.
The remaining countries in the top 10 were Norway, United Kingdom, Finland, Luxembourg and Austria. The rankings showed a strong European dominance, with Nordic countries performing well on quality of life, governance and public welfare indicators.

India ranked 63rd in the overall 2026 Best Countries rankings, behind countries such as Singapore, Japan and the United Arab Emirates, but ahead of several emerging economies.
