
Rome, May 19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Italy on Tuesday in the last leg of his five-nation tour. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani welcomed PM Modi at Fiumicino Airport at 7.30 pm local time (11.30 pm Indian time). During this tour, PM Modi will meet his Italian counterpart Georgia Meloni.
Strict security arrangements implemented
In view of this visit of PM Modi, the Italian administration has implemented a comprehensive security plan. According to Italy’s leading news agency Adnkronos, the police have prepared a special security system that takes into account the geographical location and sensitivity of each event venue.
Special surveillance at PM Modi’s stopover site
Security has already been increased at Rome airport. PM Modi will stay at the Anantara Hotel located at Plaza Della Repubblica, where law enforcement agencies will continuously patrol the entire area. Apart from this, a special investigation campaign is also being conducted.
Intelligence agencies also alert
Italy’s intelligence agencies are already active. Italian special operations units and postal police are carrying out constant surveillance to prevent potential threats and intercept suspicious signals.
Meeting Meloni and Mattarella
PM Modi’s first official program will be to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella. For this he will go to Quirinale Palace. After this, there will be a summit meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Georgia Meloni at Villa Pamphili, which is considered a very sensitive and high-security zone.

The two leaders will also attend a working lunch with the heads of several large Indian and Italian industrial groups. After this, PM Modi will visit the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) before leaving Italy. PM Modi had earlier visited Italy for the G7 summit in June 2024.
Emphasis on India-Italy relations
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit is taking place in the backdrop of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. Both countries are actively implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029. In this roadmap, special emphasis has been laid on bilateral trade, investment, defense and security, clean energy, innovation, science and technology and strengthening people-to-people ties.
Strong growth in India-Italy trade
According to the ministry, bilateral trade between the two countries has reached US $ 16.77 billion in the year 2025. At the same time, between April 2000 and September 2025, foreign direct investment of US $ 3.66 billion has been recorded from Italy to India.
