I tried KFC's new Garlic Parmesan Sub - the verdict on value for money will surprise you

KFC has just unveiled its latest menu shake-up, featuring a much-loved classic making its long-awaited comeback alongside a brand new creation. After a decade-long absence, KFC's Supercharger Sub returned to stores on Monday, May 18.

Yet that wasn't the only exciting addition, with a Garlic Parm Sub and Garlic Parm Loaded Fries also joining the lineup exclusively until June 14.

There are few food combinations more irresistible than anything loaded with garlic and cheese, so trying the Garlic Parm was an absolute must following its launch.

The burger alone comes in at £6.49, though it can also be purchased as part of a meal for £7.99, or as part of a box meal with hot wings, chips and a second side for £9.99.

It is worth bearing in mind that ordering through apps such as Deliveroo or Uber Eats will result in a higher price.

On arrival, the sub was larger than anticipated, boasting a wonderfully soft seeded bun packed with two generously sized mini fillets, lettuce, American cheese, and the undisputed star of the show - the garlic parmesan sauce.

The sauce carried a mayo-like consistency, and the aroma of garlic was immediately apparent the moment the KFC paper bag was opened.

The initial bite leaned more towards parmesan than garlic, delivering a delightfully tangy and cheesy flavour that made reaching for another bite utterly unavoidable.

The combination of crispy chicken and cheese complemented one another brilliantly, with the soft bun and crunchy lettuce bringing everything together perfectly. In my opinion, it ranks amongst the finest items KFC has ever put on its menu.

As much as I relished the sub, one nagging thought remained - value for money. When it comes to stretching your pound further on a sandwich, Subway is a tough act to follow.

You receive a considerably larger sandwich, complete freedom over your choice of toppings, sauce and salad, and you leave feeling thoroughly satisfied.

Granted, Subway doesn't offer a fried chicken option, but a foot-long sub can be had for as little as £7.99 - which for a lunchtime bite on the move is rather hard to beat.

That said, if it's that classic KFC chicken experience you're after, I cannot recommend this sandwich highly enough, and I fully intend to return for another before it vanishes from the menu on June 14.
