Delhi. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on a visit to Vietnam, held bilateral talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang in Hanoi during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintain peace, stability, security, security and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region.
According to a Defense Ministry release issued on Tuesday, the two ministers reviewed the growing defense partnership between the two countries and discussed ways to further deepen cooperation in maritime security, defense industry, training and regional stability.
Both sides exchanged views on regional and global security developments of mutual interest and stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, security and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region.
They discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in various areas including military training, defense industry cooperation, maritime security, capacity building, UN peacekeeping, cyber security and high-level exchanges. They also agreed to enhance cooperation between the defense forces of the two countries through regular dialogue, joint exercises and exchange programmes. Both the Ministers inaugurated the Language Laboratory at the Vietnam Air Force Officers College through video conferencing. This laboratory has been established with Indian assistance.
The Defense Minister also announced the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Telecommunications in Nha Trang. Mr Singh’s visit also saw India’s Military College of Telecommunications Engineering and Vietnam’s Telecommunications University exchange an MoU in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technology, marking another important chapter in the advanced comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Defense Minister Shri Singh reiterated India’s commitment to strengthen its advanced comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam.
They also reiterated India’s resolve to support Vietnam’s defense modernization and capability enhancement initiatives within the framework of bilateral defense cooperation. General Fan Wan Jiang appreciated India’s continued support and stressed the long-standing friendship and growing strategic partnership between the two countries. After talks with General Phan, Shri Singh spoke over phone to Secretary General and President of Vietnam To Lam and extended warm greetings to him on behalf of President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the conversation, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation in various areas including defense and security, trade and investment, maritime cooperation, connectivity, digital transformation and people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders reaffirmed the strong and unbreakable friendship between India and Vietnam based on shared civilizational ties, mutual trust and common strategic interests. He expressed satisfaction at the continued progress of the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
It is noteworthy that President Shri Toh Lam had recently come to India. Recalling that visit, he appreciated the expansion in India-Vietnam bilateral cooperation and acknowledged India’s important role in Vietnam’s development and strategic priorities. They welcomed the growing defense cooperation as a key pillar of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries and expressed confidence that bilateral relations will further strengthen in the years to come.
The Defense Minister also visited the mausoleum of Vietnam’s founding president, late Ho Chi Minh, and began his day’s programs by paying tribute to him on his 136th birth anniversary. “His vision, leadership and unwavering commitment to national independence and global solidarity will continue to inspire generations. He also laid the foundation of a strong India-Vietnam friendship, which is based on shared values and mutual respect,” the Defense Minister said in a post on Twitter.
