Punjab fast bowler Gurnoor Brar got his maiden India Test selection for the upcoming solitary match against Afghanistan. The right-arm paceman received the call-up owing to his consistent form in domestic cricket and IPL over the past two years.

The Indian side has selected Brar alongside uncapped Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey. Out of the trio who will make their maiden appearance for India, the selection of Gurnoor Brar has garnered maximum attention on account of his rise in Indian cricket.

Gurnoor Singh Brar of Punjab is an express pacer who swings the ball both ways along with bounce. The tall fast bowler is a crucial member of Punjab in red-ball cricket. His disciplined bowling approach along with controlled bowling technique has caught the selectors' eye.

The talented fast bowler made his first-class debut in 2022 and also made his IPL debut in 2023 for Punjab Kings. However, the upcoming 2024-25 domestic season has turned out to be a defining year in the career of the pacer.

In the Ranji Trophy, Brar became Punjab's most successful wicket-taker by taking 26 wickets in 7 matches and kept the batters under pressure with his line and length bowling. Discipline and accuracy have been the hallmarks of his cricketing career.

He achieved one of his best bowling figures while bowling against Bihar where he took 5/14 wickets. In the entire season of 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, he took 33 wickets in 12 matches with a great average of 25.66 and an economy rate of 3.43.

He also showed his class in the shorter format. In the 2024 Sher-E-Punjab T20 League, he became the most successful wicket-taker with 22 wickets in 11 matches. He has done well in both formats which has made him one of the best bowling prospects of Punjab.

Even before turning professional cricketer, he had the honor to be the net bowler for Mumbai Indians in the 2019 IPL season.

Brar was signed up by Punjab Kings to play in his first-ever IPL in 2023 as a like-for-like replacement for Raj Bawa for Rs 20 lakh. His debut match in the IPL took place against Lucknow Super Giants.

Following the domestic performances, Brar was able to sign a deal with Gujarat Titans in the 2025 IPL auction for Rs 1.30 crore.

Along with his bowling, Brar has also shown his batting prowess by scoring 64 runs in a Ranji Trophy game against Jammu & Kashmir in 2023 which helped Punjab post a 100-run partnership with Siddharth Kaul.

On the back of his successful domestic stint and performances in the India A matches, Brar managed to achieve the biggest milestone in his career by getting selected for his debut Test series for India against Afghanistan.
