Mumbai: Several new faces have been given an opportunity in the upcoming Indian Test and ODI squads against Afghanistan. One such name is Gurnoor Brar. Most cricket fans do not know much about Gurnoor Brar, as he hasn't suited up significantly in the IPL either. So who is this Gurnoor Brar? Whose recommendation is behind his Team India selection? Here is the information.
Gurnoor Brar is a 25-year-old Punjabi lad. He plays for Punjab in domestic cricket and for Gujarat Titans in the IPL. This six-foot-five-inch tall pacer from Mohali is a die-hard fan of former South African speedster Dale Steyn.
During his childhood, Gurnoor loved the actions of fast bowlers. Like most Indian kids, Gurnoor used to mimic the bowling actions of Dale Steyn, Brett Lee, and Shoaib Akhtar while walking or going to school. However, cricket wasn't his absolute life back then; during his school days, Gurnoor mostly played football and tennis. “I hadn't taken cricket very seriously back then. It was just for entertainment,” Gurnoor says.
But at the age of 16, Gurnoor turned towards cricket. “I am a fan of Dale Steyn. I chose bowling because of him. He ruled world cricket for a decade. He wasn't just a fast bowler; he was the best player in the world because of the special skills he possessed,” Gurnoor had previously said in an interview with The Times of India.
