No Bumrah! BCCI Announces India Squads for Afghanistan Test and ODI Series

BCCI has India's Test and ODI  squad for the upcoming series against Afghanistan which will commence on the 6th of June. A one-off Test match will kickstart the series followed by three ODIs later in the month.

 

The selectors have made some vital calls as India look to gear up for the 2027 ODI World Cup in a slow and steady manner.

 

Shubman Gill is going to lead the squads, and it's encouraging to see Rohit Sharma make a comeback to the ODI squad despite having had injury concerns throughout the IPL season. Virat Kohli continues to remain a part of the ODI squad as well.

 

The Mumbai Indians opener had missed five matches during the IPL season due to a right hamstring concern. Though he later featured in the last few matches as an Impact Substitute, questions were raised over his fitness in long formats of the game. Nevertheless, the selectors have put their faith in the experienced opener for the Afghanistan ODIs.

 

KL Rahul Gets Bigger Role, Pant Loses Vice-Captaincy

 

KL Rahul has been appointed the vice-captain for the Test matches and the wicketkeeper-batsman will remain the first-choice for the ODIs as well after impressing with his contributions for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

 

Rishabh Pant has been stripped off his vice-captaincy responsibilities following a string of poor performances, though he continues to be a part of the Test squad.

 

Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan make it to the ODI squads on the back of some excellent contributions, and it's worth noting that Dhruv Jurel, who has 314 IPL runs under his belt has been included in the Test squad alone.

 

The selectors also award opportunities to youngsters like Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey, and Prince Yadav.

Bumrah and Siraj Rested for Series

 

Jasprit Bumrah will be rested from the Afghanistan series in order to manage workload with the white-ball tour of England around the corner. Mohammed Siraj will also be rested from both the teams.

 

Hardik Pandya makes the cut for the ODI squad even though he has played few games in IPL as he suffered from back spasms for a period.

 

The sole test match between India and Afghanistan will be played from June 6 to 10 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

 

ODI series will be played starting from June 14 at Dharamsala followed by Lucknow on June 17 and then Chennai on June 20.
