Donald Trump’s government in America on Monday permanently withdrew all the charges of criminal fraud against Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani. This big case going on in New York court has now been completely closed. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) said there was not enough evidence to prove charges.
Many US investigations to Adani Group have been closed in the last few days. Earlier, Gautam Adani’s lawyer Robert Giuffra Jr. had told in a presentation that Adani wanted to invest 10 billion dollars in America, but this was not possible due to the ongoing lawsuits.
Adani Group paid a fine of $ 275 million
Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) has also settled with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department. The company has paid a fine of $275 million in violation of Iran sanctions. This amount is less than the maximum possible fine. The company has not accepted the allegations.
What was the LPG deal, due to which America was unhappy?
According to an Indian Express report, according to the Office of Foreign Assets Control, Adani Enterprises purchased liquid petroleum gas from a Dubai businessman between the years 2023 and 2025, which was actually coming from Iran. The US had sent several red flags to the company but proper investigation was not done. During this period, payments worth about 19 crore 21 lakh dollars were made through American banks.
What steps has Adani Group taken?
OFAC reduced the penalty taking into account the company’s cooperation and corrective actions. Adani Group has already stopped importing LPG and strengthened its sanctions compliance policy.
Now what next?
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has also passed final consent judgments against Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani. Gautam Adani will have to pay a civil penalty of $60 lakh and Sagar Adani will have to pay a civil penalty of $12 million.
What has Adani Group said on the allegations?
Adani Group has denied all the allegations and said that it fully follows the law. After this decision, Adani Group can now move forward on the path of new investment in America.
Can the case be reopened now?
The US Justice Department on Monday permanently withdrew all criminal charges against Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani. The big fraud case going on in New York has now been completely closed. In a petition filed in the court, the US government said that it no longer wants to spend any more time and resources in this matter. The court permanently dismissed the case. This means that now this case can never be opened again.
Adani Group was involved in which case?
At the end of 2024, the US had accused Adani and his associates of paying a bribe of $ 265 million, or about Rs 2,200 crore, to Indian officials so that they could get contracts for solar power projects. This information was hidden from American investors and banks.
What happened in Iran LPG deal case?
Adani Enterprises signed a $275 million agreement with the US Treasury Department. The company was accused of violating US sanctions imposed on Iran and purchasing Iranian gas. The company cooperated and paid the fine.
Why did America withdraw the case?
American investigators did not find sufficient evidence. There was also less direct connection with America. The team of America’s top lawyers gave strong arguments on behalf of Adani Group for several months. Adani’s lawyer Robert Giuffra worked hard. He is also a lawyer for US President Donald Trump. He said that there was neither concrete evidence in this case nor did the American court have the authority to try it. Gautam Adani has already announced to invest 10 billion dollars in America and create 15,000 jobs. This decision is a big relief for Adani Group. This case was to the future of his company. Now it is closed forever.
