Bengal, Tripura now Kerala, if they lose then they will not return, leftists will be out of Parliament also?

At one time, the threat of the Left parties in the country was such that they had governments in many states. Not only this, many governments in power in the country were also from the left. Now the situation has become such that there is no Left government in any state and within a few years the number of Left MPs in the Rajya Sabha may also become zero. The main reason for this is that in less than a decade, the Left has lost its two strong forts i.e. Tripura and Kerala. He has been defeated twice in Tripura and now he is out of power in Kerala also. The organization is in a very weak position and despite the alliance, it is not getting any success in a state like Bengal.

At present, Left MPs are limited to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Rajasthan. They have won with the alliance of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu, Grand Alliance in Bihar and both the major Left parties and several other parties in Kerala. Right now i.e. in May 2026, the Left has a total of 8 Lok Sabha MPs and five Rajya Sabha MPs. However, due to the way the political situation has changed in the four states of Kerala, Bihar, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, it can be said that in the coming time, the number of Left MPs in the Parliament may also become zero.

Is the Left very weak in the Lok Sabha?

There are a total of 8 Left MPs in the Lok Sabha. The Marxist Communist Party has the maximum number of four MPs. Out of these four, two MPs are from Tamil Nadu and one MP each from Kerala and Rajasthan. In Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, these seats were won due to being part of INDIA alliance and in Kerala, CPM won only one seat on its own. Similarly, both the Lok Sabha MPs of CPI are from Tamil Nadu and that too was part of INDIA alliance. Joseph Vijay emerged in Tamil Nadu and the Congress immediately decided not only to form the government with him but also announced to contest the upcoming elections together.

If this happens, the position of the DMK-led alliance may weaken in the 2029 elections and its dominance, which has been going on for several Lok Sabha elections, may be in danger. In this situation, there is a possibility of further loss to the Left. Both the CPI (ML) MPs have won from Bihar. After the defeat of the Grand Alliance in the 2025 elections, NDA seems to be in a very effective position. In such a situation, nothing can be said yet about what will happen in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and what role the Left will play in it.

Will leftists be eliminated from Rajya Sabha?

After Bengal and Tripura lost, the only hope left for the Left parties was Kerala. There are a total of five Rajya Sabha MPs from Left parties. Of these, three are from CPM and two are from CPI. The interesting thing is that these five MPs come from Kerala only. Of these, the tenure of two is ending in 2027, two in 2028 and one in 2030. The results of the recent assembly elections in Kerala show that now these seats are also going to go to the left parties. The reason for this is that not only has the Left lost in Kerala, but the number of its MLAs has reduced considerably.

In the recent elections, the Left government lost power after being reduced to only 38 seats. Out of this, CPM’s own 26 seats and CPI’s total 8 seats. Its allies won the remaining 4 seats. Elections will be held on three seats in Kerala in the month of April 2027. Of these three seats, two are currently in the possession of the Left and one is held by IUML MPs. According to the current numbers, the Left can hardly win even one seat. Similarly, there are elections on 3 seats in 2028 also. Of these, Congress is in control of two and Left is in control of one. According to the numbers game, the Left may lose these seats also.

In such a situation, the number of Left Rajya Sabha MPs may come down from five to 1 or 2 in the next two years. The tenure of one MP PP Sunir is till 2030 and if the Left continues to weaken like this, it may also lose this seat. In this way, the number of Left MPs in Rajya Sabha may become zero in the next 4 years. If it has to maintain its number of MPs, it will have to expand its organization in some new states or depend on alliance partners.
