Bhopal: The mysterious death case of model and actor Twisha Sharma has taken a fresh turn after a sessions court in Bhopal rejected the anticipatory bail plea filed by her absconding husband Samarth Singh.

Following the court order, Bhopal Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to trace the accused and announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to his arrest.

Twisha Sharma, 33, had reportedly met Samarth Singh through a dating app in 2024. The couple got married in December 2025. However, on May 12 this year, Twisha was found hanging at her husband’s residence in Katara Hills area of Bhopal.

Her parents have accused her husband and his family members of dowry harassment, physical abuse and murder.

Defence claims suicide, family alleges murder

During the bail hearing, the accused’s lawyer argued that Twisha was suffering from mental health issues and was undergoing psychiatric treatment. The defence also claimed she was addicted to drugs and died by suicide due to depression.

The lawyer further told the court that no dowry harassment had taken place and submitted bank records claiming the family had financially supported her through online transfers.

However, the actor’s family opposed the claims, arguing that the accused belonged to an influential background and could tamper with evidence if granted bail. After hearing both sides, the court rejected Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail plea.

Meanwhile, the court has already granted anticipatory bail to the accused’s mother, Giribala Singh, in the same case.

Family alleges harassment after marriage

Twisha’s family has denied all allegations made by the husband’s side. Her cousin Meenakshi said Twisha was cheerful before marriage but lost nearly 15 kg after allegedly facing harassment at her husband’s home.

According to the family, the alleged harassment intensified after she lost her work-from-home job and became pregnant.

Probe lapses under scanner

Questions have also been raised over lapses in the police investigation. It emerged that the rope allegedly used in the hanging was not sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal for examination during the postmortem process.

SIT chief Rajneesh Kashyap said strict action would be taken over the negligence.

While the preliminary report from AIIMS Bhopal has termed the death a suicide, Twisha’s parents insist it was murder, citing injury marks found on her body.

The family has also staged protests outside the residence of Mohan Yadav demanding justice and seeking a second postmortem examination at AIIMS Delhi.

Police are currently investigating the case from the angles of dowry harassment, assault and destruction of evidence.
