Former India captain Sourav Ganguly still manages to inspire young cricketers all around the globe, with his contribution to Indian cricket as both a player, and later on as an administrator. Right now, he is serving as president of the Bengal Cricket Association, and once again he showed, a sort of quiet dedication to mentoring new talent after that recent IPL clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens.
Even once the match wrapped up close to midnight, and the ground pitch was covered up, Ganguly didn’t just rush away. Instead he spent time with young Gujarat Titans batter Connor Esterhuizen, who came in to replace Tom Banton in the squad. It was late, sure, but the former India skipper still took his time, and talked patiently with the South African youngster. He walked him through batting basics like footwork, the bat grip, balance, and even hip movement, while they tried different shot options.
So talking about the game, Kolkata Knight Riders kind of kept their Indian Premier League 2026 playoff hopes alive with this impressive 29-run win over Gujarat Titans in Match 60 on Saturday May 16. The win, honestly strengthened KKR’s chances of landing a top-four spot, while Gujarat Titans now really have to grab wins in their remaining league matches, just to stay in the running for a top-two place.

Batting first, KKR produced a really bright show with the bat, at least that’s how it looked. Finn Allen smashed a stunning 93 off only 35 balls, and that gave the hosts a blazing kind of start. Angkrish Raghuvanshi then carried the momentum with a superb 82 from 44 deliveries, and it felt like the innings kept accelerating. Cameron Green also chipped in with a quick 52 off 28 balls. In the end, Kolkata piled up a massive 247/2 in 20 overs.
During the chase, Gujarat Titans started with a kind of swagger, captain Shubman Gill was there scoring a neat 85 off just 49 balls. Jos Buttler chipped in with 57, yet the run rate just kept going up steadily , like it never really eased. Then veteran spinner Sunil Narine found the turning point in the 17th over and got Gill out, which was almost curtains for Gujarat’s hopes. In the end KKR took it comfortably by 29 runs, and they also bagged two important points, in the IPL 2026 playoffs race.
