Udupi: Heavy rain and strong winds that lashed several parts of the district late on Sunday night caused damage to houses and horticulture crops in Karkala and Kundapur taluks.
Rain accompanied by moderate winds was also reported in the Udupi region after Monday night. The intensity of the wind increased along with the rain. The rainfall, which began around 9.30 pm, continued for some time.
According to officials, trees fell on 19 houses in Karkala taluk and six houses in Kundapur taluk, causing partial damage. The loss has been estimated at around Rs 5.90 lakh.
In Nallur village of Karkala taluk, horticulture crops belonging to six families were damaged due to strong winds and rain. The crop loss has been estimated at Rs 1.19 lakh.
Overall, damage to houses and horticulture crops in the district has resulted in an estimated loss of Rs 7.09 lakh.
Power disruptionHeavy rain and strong winds late on Sunday night also caused power outages in several areas for nearly two hours.
