Udupi: Konkan Railway Corporation Limited has intensified pre-monsoon precautionary works along the Konkan Railway route to ensure passenger safety during the rainy season. Due to the ongoing works, train delays and technical blocks are likely at some locations.

As train traffic is heavy on the single-line Konkan Railway route, maintenance work on the corridor is considered highly sensitive. A special action plan has been prepared to ensure smooth rail operations during the monsoon.

Track inspections and technical works are being carried out rapidly in areas that receive heavy rainfall. Engineering works including track lowering, BLT repairs, track lifting, deep screening, track renewal and PQRS maintenance are currently in progress.

The works are aimed at maintaining the strength of railway tracks and ensuring safe and comfortable travel for passengers.

Due to the ongoing works, train speeds are being temporarily reduced in some stretches. Minor delays may also occur at times because of technical blocks. However, railway authorities stated that these measures are necessary for long-term safety and reliable train operations.

Most of the pre-monsoon works are expected to be completed by the end of May, following which train punctuality is likely to improve.

Passengers are being regularly updated about train timings and movement through station announcements, electronic display boards, the official railway website and mobile applications, the release stated.
