SAN DIEGO (AP) - Miguel Andujar hit a home run off Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the first inning, while Michael King struck out nine batters over seven innings, leading the San Diego Padres to a 1-0 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
Mason Miller closed out the game for the Padres, securing his major league-leading 15th save despite walking his first two batters. He ultimately recorded three consecutive outs, concluding the match and ending the Dodgers' five-game winning streak.
Andujar's Impact
Andujar contributed significantly to the Padres' offense, delivering a solo home run for his fourth of the season. He accounted for two of the four hits registered by San Diego in the opener of a nine-game homestand, following a successful sweep against Seattle over the weekend.
Pitching Highlights
King (4-2) showcased a dominant performance, allowing just four hits and two walks while achieving season highs in both strikeouts and innings pitched. He effectively neutralized a Dodgers lineup that had scored 40 runs in their previous five games, including a remarkable 31 runs during a three-game sweep in Anaheim.
Yamamoto (3-4), the World Series MVP, delivered a commendable effort for the Dodgers, surrendering only three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. However, he received no run support throughout the game.
Defensive Plays
During the game, King allowed two baserunners in the first five innings, but catcher Rodolfo Durán made critical plays by throwing out both Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani as they attempted to steal second base.
In the eighth inning, Hyeseong Kim and Ohtani reached base with two outs against reliever Jason Adam, but Betts grounded out to short, ending the threat.
Looking Ahead
As the series continues, Griffin Canning (0-2, 10.64 ERA) will seek to recover from recent struggles for the Padres on Tuesday, while Emmet Sheehan (3-1, 4.54 ERA) is set to pitch for the Dodgers.
