The San Diego Police Department received notifications regarding the incident around 11:40 AM at the mosque situated at 7050 Eckstrom Avenue, close to Balboa Avenue, as per NBC San Diego's coverage. Initial emergency calls indicated that the shooting might have occurred outside the mosque premises.
A significant number of police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical teams responded to the scene as officials sought to clarify the situation. In response to the unfolding situation, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria stated, "I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area." Additionally, the northbound lanes of Interstate 805 at Balboa Avenue have been closed due to the police activity. Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the vicinity while emergency services are engaged at the location.
