Tribute to MS Dhoni? Sanju Samson stumps Heinrich Klassen, and engages in banter with the batter
Cricket Gully | May 19, 2026 3:39 AM CST

While fans were speculating on the final day of MS Dhoni, his successor Sanju Samson stunned the Chepauk crowd by stumping Heinrich Klassen within a fraction of a second. Klassen was the only one going big for Sunrisers Hyderabad while chasing 181 at the M Chidambaram Stadium.

And Sanju Samson ended the show with a quick stumping. Klassen tried to go after the ball. Apparently he got an outside edge, but the third umpire ruled out the possibility. Coming back to Samson, he rightly caught the ball and hit the stumps within seconds while Klassen's backfoot was up in the air.

After the third umpire confirmed the decision, something very unusual happened. Klassed turned back and passed some word to Samson. Samson was surrounded by the overly joyous bowler Noor Ahmed and others. Amid the hugs and high fives, Samson too passed some words. Before the situation goes out of control, Shivam Dube bypassed Klassen. Samson even had a chat with the umpire.

SRH qualified to playoffs with 5-wicket win

Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down 181 with an over to spare to beat Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. After electing to bat, CSK posted 180/7, riding on aggressive knocks from Dewald Brevis (44 off 27), Kartik Sharma (32 off 19), and Sanju Samson (27 off 13). Pat Cummins led the bowling effort with 3/28, while Sakib Hussain picked up two wickets to restrict the hosts despite a late push.

In reply, SRH recovered from an early setback after Travis Head’s dismissal. Ishan Kishan anchored the chase with a fluent 70 off 47 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen smashed 47 off 26 and stitched a crucial 75-run partnership. Sanju Samson’s lightning stumping ended Klaasen’s stay, but Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora ensured there were no late hiccups. Mukesh Choudhary claimed two wickets for CSK.
