Dharwad: In a joint operation by Haveri and Dharwad district police, two interstate burglars were arrested and valuables worth around Rs 1.15 crore, including gold and silver jewellery, were seized.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shivaraj Hanamantappa Modaker of Balehosur in Lakshmeshwar taluk of Haveri district and Ashok alias Ramesh Shivappa Konchikoravar of Ambamath in Sindhanur taluk.
Police said 310 grams of gold jewellery, 26 kg of silver ornaments and a Bolero vehicle stolen from Telangana were recovered from the accused. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 1.15 crore.
A house burglary had taken place in Kiresur village under Hubballi Rural Police Station limits in April this year. A few days ago, a jewellery shop theft was also reported under Hangal Police Station limits in Haveri district.
Police teams from Hubballi Rural, Navalagund and Hangal police stations jointly investigated the cases and succeeded in arresting the accused and recovering the stolen jewellery.
Police said the burglary gang consisted of six members. While two accused have been arrested, four others are absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining accused.
According to a statement issued by SP Gunjan Arya, rewards have been announced for the officers and staff of Hubballi Rural Police Station, CPI Navalagund Circle and CPI Hangal Circle for successfully solving the case.
