The West Bengal Cabinet has approved the Annapurna scheme, which will provide women with a monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 starting June 1. Additionally, women will be allowed to travel for free on government buses.
After the meeting, state minister Agnimitra Paul announced at a press conference that women applying for citizenship under the amended Citizenship Act (CAA) and those seeking to include their names in the voter list through tribunals will also benefit from the Annapurna scheme.
Minister Paul stated, “The Cabinet has sanctioned the Annapurna scheme, which will offer ₹3,000 monthly support to women starting June 1. Furthermore, the proposal allowing free travel for women on government buses has also been approved.”
She also mentioned that the government has approved the establishment of the seventh state pay commission for its employees, as well as those working in affiliated statutory bodies, education boards, and state-run educational institutions.
Moreover, the Bengal Cabinet has decided to discontinue government assistance based on religious classification starting in June. The government has annulled the current Other Backward Classes (OBC) list in accordance with a ruling from the Calcutta High Court and will form an inquiry committee to determine eligibility for reservations.
