Chennai: The league stage of the Indian Premier League is nearing its end, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru already securing a place in the playoffs. Seven teams are still competing for the remaining three playoff spots.
Chennai Super Kings are currently placed fifth in the points table and have two league matches remaining. The team will face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday, May 18.
Former CSK captain MS Dhoni has not played a single match this season. The franchise had earlier stated that Dhoni was recovering from an injury since the beginning of the new season.
However, reports now suggest that Dhoni is likely to feature in Chennai’s final home match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.
There is also speculation that this could be Dhoni’s final IPL appearance before announcing retirement from the T20 league. Fans are eagerly waiting to watch him play once again.
The development also matches a statement made by Dhoni five years ago. During Chennai Super Kings’ IPL title celebration in 2021, Dhoni had expressed his wish to play his final T20 match in Chennai.
With CSK scheduled to play at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, reports indicate that Dhoni could return to the field for the much-awaited fixture.
