Punjab Police, along with Counter Intelligence Punjab, has arrested three individuals in connection with a grenade recovery case reported near Geeta Bhawan Road in Gurdaspur district. The arrests were made during an ongoing security drive aimed at tackling organised crime and maintaining law and order in the state.
According to officials, the case began after a hand grenade was recovered from the area, prompting an investigation involving local police and intelligence teams. During the probe, investigators identified and tracked the suspects, leading to their arrest.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused were allegedly acting on the instructions of a foreign-based handler. Police said the suspects had reportedly received two hand grenades through the network connected to the handler. Authorities are now examining possible links to cross-border criminal or extremist activities and are trying to identify others who may have been involved.
Officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the explosives, establish communication channels used by the accused, and determine whether additional modules are active in the region.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the use of illegal weapons and explosives in Punjab, particularly in cases where investigators suspect coordination from abroad. Security agencies continue to monitor such cases closely amid ongoing efforts to prevent organised crime and potential threats to public safety.
