IPL: Amidst the excitement of IPL 2026, CTI has written a letter to the Sports Minister demanding to hold IPL matches without spectators.
IPL : A new controversy has come to light regarding IPL 2026. In this tournament, which started from March 28, the teams have so far covered lakhs of kilometers by air and road. Due to matches being held in different cities, continuous traveling is going on. In the current situation, when everyone from the government to the common citizens is trying to reduce wasteful expenditure, IPL seems to be such a big event on which questions are now being raised. Due to this, CTI has written a letter to the Sports Minister demanding to hold IPL matches without spectators.
Demand raised to hold the match without spectators
In fact, Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) Chairman Brijesh Goyal has written a letter to Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on this issue on Sunday. In which he has demanded to cut down air travel and hold the remaining matches of IPL in limited grounds and without spectators. Goyal believes that this decision will save millions of liters of fuel, petrol and diesel and will put less burden on the country.
Heavy fuel expenditure in the travel of teams
According to the Chamber of Trade and Industry, chartered aircraft used by IPL teams, such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, consume an average of 2400 to 3000 liters of fuel every hour. Accordingly, in a flight of about 2 hours this consumption reaches 5000 to 6000. Whereas for long range and heavy aircraft this figure can even reach 7000 to 8000 litres. Now, if this amount of fuel is multiplied by about 10 air journeys of IPL teams, then it would not be wrong to say that each team is spending about 50,000 to 70,000 liters of aviation fuel.
